Imran Dhamrah condemns India’s ‘water aggression’ over Indus Waters Treaty
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) district Sanghar information secretary Imran Dhamrah has strongly condemned what he termed India’s “water aggression” and expressed full support for Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty.
In a statement issued here, Mr Dhamrah said the Indus Waters Treaty was an important international agreement that ensured a fair distribution of river waters between the two countries. However, he alleged that India had repeatedly taken steps contrary to the spirit of the treaty and was attempting to influence the flow of water allocated to Pakistan.
He said water was a vital resource for Pakistan’s agriculture, economy and the survival of its people, and any attempt to exert pressure or aggression over it was unacceptable.
Mr Dhamrah maintained that India’s construction of dams and other projects affecting water flow not only violated the treaty but could also pose a threat to peace and stability in the region.
He urged the international community and relevant global institutions to take serious notice of the matter and ensure that India fully adhered to the Indus Waters Treaty.
He added that Pakistan would continue to raise its voice at every forum for the protection of its water rights.
The PPP leader said his party had always stood at the forefront in safeguarding national interests and defending the rights of the people, adding that no compromise would be accepted on the issue of water resources.
He also expressed the resolve that the Pakistani nation was united in protecting its rivers and water resources and would defend its rights through all available diplomatic and legal channels.
