RTA fines transporters Rs257,000 for overcharging fares in Sanghar
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Sanghar, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a special campaign across the district to check public transport fares and ensure compliance with officially notified rates.
According to RTA Secretary Abdul Waheed Panhwar, inspections were carried out on various transport routes in response to complaints about overcharging following the recent increase in petroleum prices. During the campaign, strict action was taken against vehicles found charging passengers more than the approved fares.
Officials said that from Feb 24 to March 11, 2026, fines amounting to Rs257,000 were imposed on transporters for violating fare regulations.
Meanwhile, in Tando Adam, a tractor trolley was taken into custody for carrying straw beyond the permissible load and size limits. A fine of Rs50,000 was also imposed for violating the orders of the Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad Circuit Bench.
The RTA has directed transporters to strictly adhere to notified fares and operate vehicles within the approved seating capacity. Authorities warned that violations of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965, and Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969, would result in legal action and could lead to cancellation of route permits.
