Tando Adam fruit and vegetable market plagued by neglect, traders demand urgent repairs
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) The fruit and vegetable market in Tando Adam has been facing severe infrastructural issues due to the alleged negligence of the market committee, leaving the trading community increasingly concerned.
According to reports, President of the Fruit and Vegetable Commission Agents Association, Akbar Hussain Chughtai, said while speaking to the media that despite generating thousands of rupees in daily revenue, the market committee has failed to undertake essential development work.
He pointed out that the auction platform in the market is in a dilapidated condition and recently a portion of it collapsed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as workers narrowly escaped the incident. However, he warned that the structure poses a serious risk and could lead to a major accident at any time.
Mr Chughtai further stated that repeated verbal and written requests had been submitted to the market committee secretary for the repair of the auction platform, but no action has been taken so far. He added that a complaint was also lodged during an open court held by the provincial ombudsman, yet the issue remains unresolved.
He also highlighted that due to the administration’s lack of attention, the drainage system of the market has deteriorated badly. During rains, stagnant water accumulates on the roads, causing significant inconvenience to traders and disrupting business activities for several days.
The traders, he said, have carried out some development work on a self-help basis, including the construction of paved roads within the market.
Mr Chughtai urged the Sindh government to take immediate notice of the situation and ensure prompt repair of the auction platform along with other necessary development works to provide relief to the trading community.
