Young poets urge youth to turn to literature instead of negative pursuits

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Prominent young poets Hamad ur Rehman Hadi and Jon Hassan Ali Qazalbash have stressed the need for the younger generation to move away from frivolous activities and negative habits and engage with literature, particularly poetry, to channel their abilities in a positive direction and build a purposeful future.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Media at Press Club Tando Adam, the poets said that poetry was not merely about rhyme and metre but served as a reflection of inner emotions, thoughts and lived experiences. They said literature helped individuals understand themselves and society more deeply.

Mr Hadi said poetry emerged from a range of human emotions, including joy, sorrow, love and social injustice, which found expression through words. He noted that poetry provided a meaningful outlet for emotions and helped raise awareness about social realities.

Mr Qazalbash said literature taught young people the art of expression while nurturing tolerance, intellectual growth and critical thinking. He added that if today’s youth developed a relationship with books instead of becoming absorbed in social media and short-term entertainment, they could refine their personalities and contribute positively to society.

Both poets emphasised the need for educational institutions, literary organisations and social forums to organise literary sittings, poetry recitals and training programmes to connect young people with literature. They said the power of the pen could guide youth away from confusion and towards awareness, enlightenment and constructive thinking.
