Rohri Canal embankment repairs to be completed within a week: MPA Paras Dero

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Member of the Sindh Assembly, Sardar Paras Dero, has directed irrigation authorities to complete the repair work on the embankments of the Rohri Canal within a week, warning that no negligence in strengthening the bund would be tolerated.


Mr Dero visited the Rohri Canal near Bhit Shah to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation work, where he instructed officials to expedite stone pitching on the canal embankments to ensure their durability. He also held a detailed meeting with engineers and officers of the irrigation department to review progress.


Speaking on the occasion, the MPA said that a 50-foot breach had occurred in the Rohri Canal embankment in August last year, causing significant losses to the area. He added that the canal near Tando Adam had suffered breaches on three occasions so far, posing recurring threats to agricultural land and nearby settlements.


Mr Dero said the Sindh government was now reinforcing the canal embankments with stone pitching on a permanent basis. Irrigation officials assured him that embankments from RD-25 to RD-842 would be strengthened at the earliest, which would help prevent recurring breaches and provide long-term relief to residents of the area.


He expressed gratitude to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur and Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro for their support in initiating the repair and strengthening work. He said the PPP believed in public service and remained committed to addressing the hardships faced by the people, adding that the party stood with those affected by canal breaches and would not abandon them in difficult times.


Executive Engineer Hala Salahuddin Qureshi, SDO Israr Memon,Mukhtiar Umrani, Achar Saand, Ameeruddin Hingoro, Sikandar Shah, Mola Bakhsh Nizamani, Mir Saand and Rajab Ali Bozdar among others, were present during the inspection.
