SAFWCO Celebrates 39 Years of Service,Commitment Renewed to Strengthen Efforts in Education, Health, and Employment
Hyderabad, The Sindh Agriculture and Forestry Workers Coordinating Organization (SAFWCO) marked its 39th anniversary with a commemorative ceremony held at its Head Office in Hyderabad. On this occasion, the organization announced a renewed commitment to enhance its efforts in creating sustainable resources for education, health, and employment across Sindh.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Suleman G. Abro, Founder and Executive Director of SAFWCO, congratulated all team members and partners on the organization’s long journey of service. Reflecting on SAFWCO’s humble beginnings, he said that despite working with limited resources, the organization’s dedication to community development and human welfare has remained steadfast.
“Institutions emerge from the thinking and commitment of people who want to bring positive change in society,” said Dr. Abro. “If our goals and intentions are aligned with the hopes of the people, success naturally follows. The coming years will bring change, and to keep pace with the world, we too must evolve.”
Dr. Abro reaffirmed his resolve to design new strategies focused on women’s employment, the promotion of agricultural by-product technology, and transforming agriculture into an industry. He also emphasized intensifying SAFWCO’s initiatives in health, sanitation, and disaster-resilient housing in rural communities.
Speaking at the occasion, Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Managing Director of SAFCO Microfinance Company, extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Abro and the SAFWCO team. He paid tribute to the early contributors who played a pivotal role in SAFWCO’s foundation, including the late wife of Dr. Abro, acknowledging her significant contributions to women’s empowerment and welfare.
“SAFWCO’s journey of 39 years is a testament to its unwavering role in improving the socio-economic well-being of millions of families,” said Sajjad. “This milestone is not only the success of an institution but also the collective effort of its dedicated team, partners, and supporters who have trusted and stood by SAFWCO’s mission.”
Zeeshan Memon, Deputy Executive Director of SAFWCO, highlighted the evolving challenges faced by the social sector due to shifting global priorities, referencing the Ukraine conflict and the situation in Palestine. He noted that international funding for social causes has been adversely impacted but affirmed SAFWCO’s resilience in continuing its mission despite such challenges. From SAFWCO's senior colleagues Irum Maria recalled the early years of SAFWCO, emphasizing that when it was founded, there was little recognition of women’s participation in the social sector. She commended Dr. Abro and his late wife for paving the way for women’s involvement and leadership in community development. The event was also addressed by other senior staff Satram Suthar, Shahid Hussain Buriri, Rameez Iqbal, Farah Kashif, and others who praised SAFWCO’s lasting impact on the fields of education, health, agriculture, and women’s empowerment.
As SAFWCO steps into its 40th year, the organization remains committed to expanding its development programs and strengthening partnerships to build a more inclusive, healthy, and economically resilient society.
