Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment’s First Shipment Arrives in Karachi from China
Karachi : With China's cooperation, the first shipment of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plants and charging equipment has arrived in Karachi, marking a significant step toward advancing EV infrastructure in Pakistan. Chinese company ADM Group’s CEO, Yasir Bhambani, arrived in Karachi yesterday with the EV charging equipment and handed it over to Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Chairman of the Malik Group and Convener of the FPCCI Energy Committee.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that through their efforts, the Chinese company ADM Group has moved forward with a $240 million investment in EV manufacturing and charging plants in Pakistan. A total of 3,000 EV charging stations will be set up across the country.
He further shared that in Karachi, the initial installation of EV equipment will take place at three locations announced by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab: KMC Head Office, Water Board Parking on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Dolmen Mall Clifton Parking.
He stated that Pakistan's economy is moving towards stability, and foreign investors are once again turning toward the country. Sindh’s Energy Minister, Nasir Hussain Shah, has assured support, stating that if the Chinese company manufactures electric vehicles in Sindh, the provincial government will purchase more than 20% of the vehicles produced from the Karachi-based plant.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh emphasized their ongoing efforts to establish a manufacturing and charging plant by the Chinese company in Karachi. He also mentioned that all licensed EV charging stations have now received their equipment shipments, and installation has begun. An additional 35 shipments are expected to arrive in Karachi soon, after which EV charging stations will be installed along the M2 Motorway and in other major cities across Pakistan.
He added that they are working with the Sindh government to invest in EV charging plants and manufacturing, and the CEO of ADM Group, Yasir Bhambani, is fully committed to this initiative.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh explained that a total of 3,000 EV charging stations will be established across Pakistan through a $90 million investment from the Chinese company, while a further $240 million will go toward setting up a vehicle manufacturing plant. He expressed hope that by the end of next year, 1,000 EV charging stations will be operational nationwide, and ADM Group will begin manufacturing electric vehicles in Pakistan by December.
