Tando Adam Shehri Action Committee Slams Municipal Irregularities, Demands Preservation of Heritage and Public Welfare
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) The Tando Adam Shehri Action Committee has strongly condemned what it calls alarming municipal irregularities, illegal commercialization of public land, worsening power outages, and the demolition of historic British-era buildings in the city.
In a press conference held at the Tando Adam Press Club, Committee Chairman Rais Habib Khan Mari, President Faiz Dero, Senior Vice President Mushtaq Adil, General Secretary Nisar Qureshi, Dr. Nafeesur Rehman Samoon, and other members raised serious concerns over the actions of the Municipal Committee’s leadership.
They said The Chairman of the Municipal Committee has unlawfully demolished several historic buildings and constructed commercial shopping centers on immunity plots meant for public welfare. There are further plans to convert additional public lands into private commercial properties, which is completely unacceptable.”
The Committee further claimed that valuable urban plots designated for community use have been leased illegally to private individuals without the approval of the elected council. They criticized the move as a betrayal of public trust and called it a misuse of authority.
They also voiced frustration over frequent and prolonged power outages, stating that The city faces 12 to 16 hours of unannounced load shedding daily, and local residents are being forced to pay for the repair of broken transformers this is exploitation.”
The Shehri Action Committee warned elected municipal councilors not to approve any resolutions that go against public interest, stating that the public will hold them accountable.
They announced a phase-wise protest campaign to address the growing urban crises and vowed to pursue both legal and democratic avenues to challenge these actions.
Among those present at the press conference were poets and activists including Gul Hassan Lakho, Imran Jugnu, Faisal Abdul Ghafoor Ansari, Riaz Hussain Sanjrani, and other committee members.
The Committee concluded by demanding the immediate halt of commercial construction on public plots, restoration of damaged heritage buildings, and an end to HESCO’s unjust load shedding.
