DC Sanghar highlights achievements of persons with disabilities
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Deputy Commissioner Sanghar Sarah Javed has said that the district administration is committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are empowered and enabled to play a productive role in society. She expressed these views while addressing a ceremony organised by the Directorate of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) at the Rehabilitation Centre for Multiple Handicapped Children in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The DC said it was encouraging to hear the success stories of special individuals who had overcome challenges through hard work and determination. She particularly lauded the achievement of visually impaired youth Wajahat Ali Wassan, noting that he is the only blind student in Sindh to have earned an IT degree from the University of Sindh. “It is a matter of pride that Wassan is now teaching computer skills to blind persons in Sanghar,” she said.
She added that many talented children were enrolled in rehabilitation institutions and only needed opportunities to demonstrate their abilities. “These children can prove their potential if given the right platforms,” she remarked.
Wajahat Wassan, while addressing the audience, credited his mother, Darshahwar, for her support throughout his educational journey. He said that every mother of a special child must play a similar role to help them succeed.
DEPD Deputy Director Sarfaraz Shar said the event aimed to highlight the strengths and capabilities of persons with disabilities, adding that the performances and achievements of the children spoke for themselves.
Children with hearing and speech impairments presented the national anthem in sign language, which drew appreciation from the audience.
Those who also spoke at the event included social worker Ahmed Khan Kumbhar, District Health Officer Dr Daulat Jamali, Additional Director Social Welfare Muslim Farooq, Sabir Hussain Mahar, Rajesh Kumar Harsadani, Ejaz Ali Zardari, Ubaid Hingorjo of Agriculture Rural Development, Abdul Majeed Rahmoon, Shabana Baloch, Mir Hassan Shar and others. They pledged continued support for providing accessible opportunities and inclusion for persons with disabilities in all institutions.
