Unique Cultural Protest Against Canal Extraction from Indus River by Shahnawaz Junejo Horse Club

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) In a remarkable display of cultural resistance, the Shahnawaz Junejo Horse Club organized a unique protest rally against the extraction of canals from the Indus River. Hundreds of horse riders, adorned in traditional attire, participated in the rally, which began at Bab-e-Shah Nawaz and proceeded through various streets before reaching the local press club.


The protestors carried placards with slogans such as "No to Canal Extraction" and "Stop the Exploitation of Indus River." During the demonstration, leaders including Shahjahan Junejo, Lal Muhammad Baloch, Aqeel Makoraani, Abdul Ghaffar Kerio, Sagar Dahraj, and others addressed the crowd. They firmly rejected the proposed canals, warning that such projects would devastate Sindh's agricultural lands, turning them barren.


The speakers condemned the canal plans as a direct attack on the rights of the people of Sindh, emphasizing the disastrous impacts on the region’s agriculture, environment, and economy. They highlighted that the Indus River is the lifeline of Sindh, and any attempt to restrict its flow would severely harm local farmers and livestock.


Protesters demanded an immediate halt to the unjust exploitation of Sindh's natural resources and called for safeguarding the region’s rights. They vowed to continue their protest movement until their demands were met.


The rally created a vibrant and spirited atmosphere as participants, clad in traditional Sindhi attire, danced to folk songs and chanted slogans, energizing the city's streets. Notable attendees included  Dodo Panhwar, Sagar Dehraj, senior journalist Wafa Raza Chandio, SUP Sanghar district president Comrade Muhammad Khan Panhwar, Muhammad Khan Bijoro, Yousif Birohi and senior journalist Mehdi Hasan Panhwar from Shahdadpur.
