Low-Cost LNG Expected to Save National Exchequer Millions of Dollars, Malik Khuda Bakhsh

KARACHI : Convener of the FPCCI Central Energy Standing Committee, Malik Khuda Bakhsh, stated that the successful arrival of low-cost LNG cargo from Qatar is not only a significant economic achievement for Pakistan but also a major strategic success amid the prevailing tensions in the region.

In his statement, Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that despite the growing tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, along with uncertainty in the Gulf region, the timely and secure delivery of LNG from Qatar proves that Pakistan’s diplomatic strategy, economic policy, and energy sector planning are moving in the right direction.

The Convener Energy Standing Committee said that due to the low-cost Qatari LNG arrangements, Pakistan is expected to save approximately 22 to 50 million US dollars through the import of two LNG cargoes. He explained that around 22 million dollars per cargo would be saved in import costs, while additional reductions in operational expenses would further provide substantial relief to the national economy.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh said that this development would reduce pressure on Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, lessen dependence on expensive spot market cargoes, and help address the ongoing energy crisis. He added that the availability of cheaper LNG would stabilize electricity generation, improve gas supply to the industrial sector, and lower production costs, ultimately benefiting export-oriented industries.

The Convener of the FPCCI Energy Standing Committee further said that the effective leadership, timely decisions, and diplomatic coordination of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik made uninterrupted energy supplies possible for Pakistan despite challenging regional circumstances.

He said that the successful transportation of LNG cargo through the sensitive Strait of Hormuz demonstrates that Pakistan is playing a positive role globally through balanced diplomacy and efforts for regional peace.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh added that if such measures in the energy sector continue, Pakistan will not only overcome its energy crisis but will also move rapidly toward industrial growth, increased investment, and economic stability.
