Chief Meteorologist Responds to Karachi Earthquake Prediction
Karachi (Web Desk): Following a private organization’s warning about a potential major earthquake in Karachi, Chief Meteorologist Aamir Haider has issued a statement in response.
During a recent press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad, Muhammad Shehbaz Laghari, CEO of the Earthquake News and Research Center, warned that the recent tremors felt in Karachi should not be ignored. He stated that stronger earthquakes could occur between Thursday night and Saturday night, though he noted that smaller quakes can sometimes reduce the chances of a major one.
Responding to this, Chief Meteorologist Aamir Haider clarified that no technology currently exists anywhere in the world that can accurately predict earthquakes. He emphasized that even in highly developed countries like Japan, no individual can forecast such events with certainty.
He further explained that historically, Karachi has experienced earthquakes ranging between 5.5 and 5.8 in magnitude, which are typically of mild to moderate intensity.
According to him, the recent tremors in Karachi are due to activity along the Landhi Fault Line, and these are minor seismic adjustments.
He added that millions of similar tremors occur globally every day. The Landhi Fault Line is currently undergoing a natural adjustment phase, and therefore, minor quakes may continue for the next week.
