Sindh Pak Abadgar Forum Protests Against Canal Construction on Indus River

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Thousands of protesters, including lawyers, women, children, and representatives of various political and social organizations, participated in a massive rally led by Shahjahan Junejo, founder of the Sindh-Pak Abadgar Forum, along with President Haji Muhammad Moosa Saand, Aqeel Makorani, Faqir Abdullah Thaheem, Lal Muhammad Baloch, and others. The rally started from Latif Gate and culminated in a sit-in outside Tando Adam Press Club to protest against the construction of six canals on the Indus River, which they called a conspiracy to dry up Sindh.

Speaking at the protest, Awami Tehreek’s central leader Lal Jarwar, Sindhyani Tehreek’s Shamshad Laghari, Shahjahan Junejo, Naimat Khuhro, Advocate Abdullah Khatak, Advocate Altaf Junejo, Rais Habib Khan Mari, Gul Hasan Lakho, Sagar Dehraj and others condemned the project. They accused the federal government of attempting to destroy Sindh’s lifeline, the Indus River, to benefit Punjab.

“This conspiracy to divert the Indus River through canals will not succeed,” they declared. “Every city, town, and village in Sindh, including women and children, is united in opposing this injustice.” They also criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), alleging that it has sided with the federal government on this issue.

“Water is life, water is livelihood, and no creation can survive without it,” the leaders emphasized.

They applauded the Sindh-Pak Abadgar Forum for uniting thousands of people for this critical cause and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the resources of Sindh. The protesters vowed to continue their demonstrations until the federal government cancels the canal project and ensures Sindh’s rightful share of water from the Indus River.
