Sindh Government Launches Historic Maternal Health Initiative with World Bank Support
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Majeed Zuhrani has announced the launch of the largest maternal and child health program in Sindh's history, "Mamata Program," with the collaboration of the World Bank. The initiative aims to improve maternal health and encourage 40% of women in the province to opt for hospital deliveries.
Speaking at a coordination committee meeting for the Mamata Program in his office, ADC Zuhrani highlighted that this program will positively impact maternal and child health, leading to better physical and mental development of newborns. He emphasized that the program is set to benefit millions of pregnant women across Sindh.
District Sanghar has already made significant progress, with Sindh Social Protection Authority District Incharge Kulsoom Joyo reporting the registration of 32,438 women at 92 centers operated by PPHI. She noted that initial financial assistance for tests has been provided to these women, and follow-up check-ups have been conducted. The district aims to facilitate 133,559 women under the program.
The program mandates newborn registration with NADRA for birth certificates, incorporating NADRA’s Assistant Director as a committee member. Registration centers have been established at Sanghar Civil Hospital and taluka hospitals in Tando Adam, Sinjhoro, and Khipro, equipped with tablets for data collection.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Director Local Government Jamshed Qaimkhani, NADRA’s Assistant Director Raza Mari, District Manager PPHI Sanaullah Mangi, District Health Officer Dr. Daulat Jamali, Dr. Hina Shabbir, HANDS representative Shah Nawaz Rajar, and other officials.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve maternal and child health outcomes across Sindh, ensuring a healthier future for families in the region.
