SAFCO Group Celebrates Women’s Leadership and Empowerment on International Women’s Day

Hyderabad: SAFCO Group celebrated International Women's Day with an inspiring event at its Head Office, bringing together thought leaders, employees, and advocates to discuss key issues facing women and pathways to empowerment. The event underscored SAFCO’s commitment to gender equality and financial inclusion, while also announcing performance awards to honor outstanding employees.

Delivering the keynote address, Suleman G. Abro, Founder & CEO of SAFCO Group, reflected on the long journey toward gender equality. “Despite the progress we’ve made, achieving equal rights remains a distant goal. Women have been granted rights by both Islam and the country’s constitution, yet systemic barriers prevent their full realization. It’s time for women to strengthen their resolve and lead the fight for their rights, while civil society and policymakers fulfill their roles in bringing about meaningful change,” he emphasized.

He further stressed that economic empowerment is the key to sustainable progress. “Without providing women with financial independence alongside access to healthcare and education, we cannot expect true development or a resolution to our economic challenges.”

Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Managing Director of SAFCO Microfinance Company, highlighted the pivotal role women play in SAFCO’s achievements. “Women’s contributions have been instrumental in our success. Every faith and culture teach respect for women, and at SAFCO, we ensure an enlightened and empowering environment. Women must also cultivate confidence and actively participate in shaping the future,” he stated.

Reaffirming SAFCO’s commitment to gender equity, he announced that 65% of SAFCO’s financial service beneficiaries are women, with plans to increase this figure to 70%.

Bashir Ahmed Abro, CEO of SAFCO Support Foundation, described SAFCO as a national leader in gender equality. “Women hold 50% of SAFCO’s management positions, reflecting our deep-rooted commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Moreover, we actively work in communities to promote gender balance and equal opportunities,” he noted.

Aleena Maria, Chief Finance Officer-CFO of SAFCO Microfinance Company and Ms. Nadia Larik, Consultant of SAFWCO together stressed that true gender equality extends beyond traditional freedoms. “Merely allowing women to step out of their homes is not enough; financial empowerment is what ensures real independence and self-sufficiency,” they asserted.

Adding an international perspective, Sherina from the Philippines highlighted that proper implementation of women’s rights in Islam could resolve many gender disparities. She stated, “Behind every successful man is a woman who has played a vital role in his journey. Women’s contributions, though often overlooked, are fundamental to all progress.”

Prominent voices including Shahid Hussain Buriro, Falak Ali, Samina Baloch, Dr. Iqra Shoaib, Sadia Talpur, Bela Bhatia, Shahzadi Hina, and Mahnoor Abro also shared their insights, further enriching the discussions.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement that SAFCO will recognize its top-performing employees, especially women at a special awards ceremony next month, honoring their dedication and contributions throughout 2024.

SAFCO Group remains steadfast in its mission to create an inclusive and empowering environment where women can thrive, contribute, and lead. By championing financial and professional empowerment, SAFCO is paving the way for a more equitable future for women in Pakistan and beyond.
