Tarlai Incident Highlights Regional Tensions; Pakistan Remains Committed to Peace and Stability: Nihal Hashmi
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Former Senator and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nihal Hashmi has said that recent terrorist incidents, particularly the attack in Tarlai underscore the need for continued vigilance, but Pakistan remains resolute in safeguarding internal peace, stability, and national interests.
Speaking with Media in Tando Adam after attending a laptop distribution ceremony at Quaid-e-Awam University Nawabshah, Mr. Hashmi said that while certain forces seek to create instability in the region, Pakistani citizens and state institutions have consistently responded with patience and responsibility.
He cited past successful counter-terrorism efforts, noting that law and order improved in major cities during former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s tenure, and stated that the current government is continuing initiatives to maintain peace.
On water disputes, Mr. Hashmi emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty is an internationally binding agreement guaranteed by the World Bank and other global institutions. He warned that water cannot be used as a weapon under international law, and added that Pakistan is employing diplomatic and legal measures to protect its share of water while promoting regional stability.
Meanwhile, Fahad Shafiq, Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP) in Sindh, highlighted the government’s focus on providing modern educational tools and employment opportunities to youth. Under the initiative, nearly 16,000 laptops are being distributed to students across Sindh’s public universities on a merit basis.
He added that the program also provides scholarships, internships, technical training, and youth loans transparently, enabling students to benefit through registration on official portals. Mr. Shafiq urged students to visit PMYP.GOV.PK to access the Prime Minister Digital Youth Program and avail opportunities aimed at skill development and empowerment.
He further stated that these youth-focused initiatives will continue in universities to ensure maximum participation and strengthen the role of young people in national economic development.
