Anti-encroachment drive launched in Tando Adam, shops demolished and fines imposed
TANDO ADAM: The district administration on Tuesday launched an anti-encroachment operation in various commercial areas of Tando Adam, demolishing illegal structures and imposing fines on shopkeepers, creating panic among traders.
According to officials, the operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Hunain Tariq Shahani, along with Mukhtiarkar Imamuddin Lark, Chief Municipal Officer Abdul Hameed Malik, municipal staff and police personnel.
During the drive, illegal sheds and extensions set up by shopkeepers outside their premises were removed at several busy locations, including Mohammadi Chowk, Chhatri Chowk, M.A. Jinnah Road and Latif Gate. The administration also confiscated goods placed illegally on footpaths and roads.
Officials said fines amounting to thousands of rupees were imposed and recovered on the spot from shopkeepers for violating official price lists, failing to display rate lists at prominent places, and selling substandard and unhygienic milk.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Hunain Tariq Shahani said that illegal encroachments would not be tolerated under any circumstances. She said shopkeepers had repeatedly been instructed to keep their goods inside their shops, but despite warnings, merchandise was displayed outside, causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to the public.
He warned traders to refrain from encroachments, adding that the operation would continue across the city and strict legal action would be taken against violators in case of non-compliance.
