Effective Implementation of "Mumta" Program to Improve Maternal and Child Health

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) A meeting of the District Coordination Committee for the Sindh Government’s Mumta Program was held under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Sinjhoro, Javeria Ashraf, to review the progress of the initiative across the district.


Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner said that full implementation of the program will have a positive impact on the health of newborns and mothers. She directed that awareness seminars should be organized in rural areas to ensure maximum benefit for women and that fortnightly reports must be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. She further instructed that SIMS should also be included in the program so that more women can be facilitated.


District Coordinator of the program, Kulsoom Joyo, informed the meeting that so far, 77,129 pregnant women have been registered under the scheme. A total of 92 PPHI centers, three Taluka hospitals, and Civil Hospital Sanghar are currently part of the initiative. In addition, mothers breastfeeding their children up to 24 months are also being covered. She added that pregnant women are now receiving financial assistance through biometric verification at Bank Alfalah franchises.


Representative of the social organization Hands, Imdad Dars, stated that the construction of clean drinking water and restroom facilities for pregnant women at the NADRA office will be completed within this week.


The meeting was also attended by Additional District Health Officer Dr. Vishnu Mal, Civil Surgeon Sanghar Dr. Aftab Azam Sariwal, Additional Deputy Director Local Government Muhammad Moosa, PPHI Manager Majid Ali, Dr. Mehreen, Dr. Sanober from SIMS Hospital, NADRA In-charge Ali Raza Mari, as well as representatives of Hands and other relevant officials.
