Event Marks International Day of Rural Women in Sanghar
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations organized a special event in Ali Muhammad Qambrani village of Sanghar’s Sinjhoro taluka on Tuesday to commemorate the International Day of Rural Women 2025. The gathering highlighted the crucial role of rural women in agriculture, climate resilience, and sustainable development under the theme “Rise of Rural Women: Building a Stronger Future with Beijing +30.”
Women farmers shared inspiring testimonies about their achievements and experiences in adopting climate-resilient agricultural practices. Male farmers also participated, expressing their support for gender equality and acknowledging the vital contributions of women in both household and agricultural work.
In one symbolic activity, men attempted to perform traditional tasks usually carried out by women such as irrigation, food preservation, and child care to better understand the importance of their often-overlooked labor.
An exhibition was also organized, featuring locally produced climate-resilient crops and handicrafts that showcased rural women’s skills and entrepreneurial capacity.
The event concluded with a symbolic plantation activity in which male and female farmers planted drought-tolerant saplings, reaffirming their shared commitment to climate action and family well-being.
The event was part of the “Transforming Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water Management” project, which underscores the deep interlinkages between gender equality, agricultural sustainability, and climate resilience.
