India Suspends Indus Waters Treaty, Announces Closure of Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi

New Delhi (Web Desk) – Following the death of 26 tourists in the Muslim-majority region of Pahalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir, India has announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the Attari border checkpoint.

After a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government also decided to halt the issuance of visas to Pakistani citizens under the SAARC agreement.

In a press conference, the spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that all visas issued to Pakistanis are being cancelled. Additionally, all Pakistani nationals currently in India have been ordered to leave the country within 48 hours.

The spokesperson stated that Indian citizens currently in Pakistan may return via the Attari border crossing by May 1.

India has declared all defense, military, naval, and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission as persona non grata and announced the closure of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. India also announced it would recall its own defense attaché from Pakistan.

According to the spokesperson, the entire staff of the Pakistani High Commission must return within seven days. Furthermore, the number of staff at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan will be reduced from 55 to 30 by May 1
