Speech Competition Held at The City Higher Secondary School on International Mother Language Day
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, The City Higher Secondary School, Tando Adam, organized a speech competition. The event, held at the school’s girls’ campus, showcased students delivering speeches in English, Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Balochi, earning great applause from the audience.
The event was presided over by the school’s Managing Director, Mirza Ashfaq Baig, and attended by teachers, former President of the Tando Adam Press Club Waseem Farooqi, Secretary General of Hyderabad Union of Journalists Workers Ashiq Hussain Sand, as well as Rashid Chauhan, Ehsan Ghori, and other notable guests.
Addressing the gathering, Mirza Ashfaq Baig, Waseem Farooqi, Ashiq Hussain Sand, and others emphasized the importance of mother languages. They stated that language is not only a means of communication but also a key element of cultural identity. They highlighted research proving that education in one’s mother tongue enhances children's confidence and critical thinking skills. However, they also expressed concern over the endangered status of many local languages.
The speakers concluded by urging society to value and promote mother languages to ensure their preservation, as the unique ideas, concepts, and perspectives embedded within each language contribute to the richness of human culture.
