Sindh Launches Major Maternal and Child Health Program with World Bank Support

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) A significant initiative to improve maternal and child health, Deputy Commissioner Sanghar Dr. Imran-ul-Hassan Khawaja announced the launch of the "Mamata Program" in collaboration with the World Bank. The program aims to increase hospital births among women in Sindh, targeting 40% of pregnant women across 15 districts.


During a coordination committee meeting for the Mamata Program, Dr. Khawaja emphasized the positive impact this initiative will have on maternal and child health, enhancing the physical and mental development of newborns. He highlighted that millions of pregnant women would benefit from the program.


District Social Protection Authority incharge Kulsoom Joyo briefed attendees that 22,000 women have already registered at 81 PPHI centers in Sanghar, with financial assistance provided for various health tests. The program aims to serve a total of 133,559 women in the district.


Additionally, the issuance of birth certificates for newborns through NADRA has been made mandatory, prompting the inclusion of a NADRA assistant director in the committee. The meeting was attended by various officials, including the Assistant Director of Local Government and the District Health Officer.
