He later served as Minister of State in the cabinet of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
Known for his principled politics, Shahnawaz Junejo endured multiple imprisonments during General Zia-ul-Haq’s martial law era. He was widely respected not only as a politician but also as a custodian of Sindh’s traditional values and heritage. He played a vital role in resolving tribal disputes peacefully, often turning rival factions into allies without bloodshed.
A lover of cultural heritage, horses, and livestock, Junejo remained deeply rooted in Sindhi traditions. He never compromised on the rights of Sindh and always stood by nationalist movements as a true people's representative.
Speakers at the ceremony remarked that Shahnawaz Junejo's services in politics, social harmony, and cultural preservation are unparalleled. Even after two decades, he continues to live in the hearts of the people. His void can never be filled.”
