Sindh Government Makes Major Administrative Changes in Prison Department
Karachi (Web Desk): Following a recent incident at Malir Jail, the Sindh government has implemented significant administrative changes in the prison department.
According to sources, legal amendments have been made to allow appointments to administrative posts within the prison department. Acting Governor of Sindh, Awais Qadir Shah, has approved the issuance of an ordinance in this regard.
Through the ordinance, the administrative structure and rules of the prison department have been altered. Under the new changes, officers from the civil service can now be appointed to key positions such as Inspector General (IG) Prisons, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Jail Superintendent.
It is important to note that several inmates had recently escaped from Malir Jail due to an earthquake in the Malir area of Karachi.
According to police, a total of 216 prisoners had escaped, out of which 94 have been re-arrested, while 122 are still at large.
