A seminar on "Girls Empowerment Literacy Importance of Basic Education was held at the Government Girls Pilot Mira High School in Hyderabad

 HYDERABAD, A seminar on "Girls Empowerment Literacy Importance of Basic Education, Heath Awareness & Polio Work" was held at the Government Girls Pilot Mira High School in Hyderabad on Thursday. Addressing the event, Regional Director of the Sindh Ombudsman Office, Hyderabad, Abdul Wahab Memon, highlighted the need to improve girls' education in Sindh, revealing that this seminar was part of a broader initiative aimed at boosting female enrollment across the province. He pointed out that 75% of schools in rural Sindh still lack basic sanitation facilities, although educational standards in Hyderabad are relatively better.

Mr. Abdul Wahab Memon stated that his office prioritizes addressing issues such as salaries, infrastructure, and the provision of basic amenities in government schools, along with implementing the Sindh government’s scholarship programs. Complaints can be submitted directly by the headmistresses or teachers, and swift action is promised. The Government Girls Pilot Mira High School, one of Hyderabad's oldest and largest institutions, currently serves 2,843 students with a staff of 111 teachers. The director emphasized the role of teachers in shaping the future of the nation and urged them to commit to their roles with dedication.

During the seminar, Pushpa Kumari, a social activist, raised concerns over the alarming rise of polio cases in Pakistan, stating that 35 cases have been reported this year. She stressed the need for public cooperation with polio vaccination teams to eliminate the disease. Kumari also linked the empowerment of girls to their physical health, calling for improvements in the healthcare system to tackle preventable diseases like polio.

Speaking on the occasion, headmistress Niaz Bano reiterated the importance of both education and health for students, urging them to take care of their well-being to excel academically. Ghulam Sarwar Mallah, Director of Elementary Secondary Schools, encouraged students to engage more actively in their learning by asking questions and participating in class discussions, while stressing the pivotal role of teachers as mentors and leaders.

The seminar was attended by notable officials, including Mithu Odh, DEO Primary Tando Allahyar; Imdad Gopang, Deputy DEO Elementary Secondary and Higher Secondary Hyderabad; and Dr. Sarfraz Qureshi, Rotary Hyderabad District Governor 3271. The event concluded with students delivering speeches on the importance of education for personal and societal growth, followed by a prize distribution ceremony for participants.
