Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s “World Culture Festival Karachi” showcases a Switzerland Theater performance titled “Shame on You"

Karachi: The 38-day "World Culture Festival Karachi," organized by Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, has seen a surge in public interest as it enters its final week. On the 34th day of the festival, Switzerland’s Arnold & Komarov travelling theater captivated audiences with their musical and interactive performance titled "Shame on You".  Directed by Ilja Komarov and Trixa Arnold, the cast includes Amna Mawaz Khan, Habib Ahmed Afsar, Ilja Komarov, Imran Nafees, and Trixa Arnold. The performance addressed societal taboos that are often considered inappropriate for discussion. Presented in both Urdu and English, the drama explored the dual nature of shame, illustrating how it can protect us from embarrassment but also imprison us, giving rise to fear, insecurity, and even aggression. The performance highlighted the deeply personal yet socially rooted nature of shame, which can persist through generations. It reflected on moments when individuals felt discomfort in public settings, such as a mother at a school event or a passenger remaining silent in a crowded bus after being touched. Shame, a complex emotion, poses significant challenges in society, impacting nearly everyone while being shaped by various external factors. The depth of shame encompasses issues of class, race, religion, body image, politics, desires, and numerous unknown aspects that shape life. This exploration of shame underscores its relevance as a critical issue within contemporary society.
