Tribute event held in Tando Adam to honour veteran nationalist leader Muhammad Saleh Junejo
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) A ceremony was held at Jam Tamachi Rest House, Tando Adam, to pay tribute to the distinguished nationalist and social figure Muhammad Saleh Junejo for his lifelong political and social services. The event was hosted by Comrade Muhammad Khan Panhwar, chairman of the Tando Adam Citizens’ Alliance.
Addressing the gathering, Comrade Muhammad Khan Panhwar, Muhammad Akhlaq Waryah (Secretary, Sindhi Adabi Sangat Tando Adam), Anwar Ali Mari (PML-N leader), Hyder Mallah (Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party leader), Jam Shoukat Abro, journalist Wafa Raza Baloch, Ghulam Qadir Bhacho (President, SGA Tando Adam), Gul Hasan Lakho, Zubair Makorani (President, Awami Tehreek Sanghar), Ghulam Qadir Chishti, and Professor Yad Hussain Shaikh shed light on Junejo’s lifelong contributions to Sindhi politics, education, and workers’ rights.
Speakers said that paying tribute to Muhammad Saleh Junejo during his lifetime is a commendable gesture. They noted that Junejo founded the Sindhi Students Association at Tando Adam Boys College and personally raised funds to help underprivileged students who could not afford tuition fees. He was known for promoting unity by wearing the traditional Sindhi ajrak turban and standing shoulder to shoulder with students.
They further highlighted that Junejo established a trade union at Sanghar Sugar Mills and laid the foundation for workers’ rights in the region. His activism displeased industrialists, leading to harassment, police cases, and imprisonment. Despite hardships, Junejo remained steadfast in his commitment to nationalist and ideological politics.
Speakers lamented the decline of ideological politics in current times, emphasizing that figures like Junejo still embody the spirit of principled political struggle. They also appealed to the government to provide official medical assistance, as Junejo is currently ailing due to paralysis.
In his concluding remarks, Muhammad Saleh Junejo thanked all the participants for their presence and shared reflections on his long journey of social and political activism.
