WAPDA Hydroelectric Labor Union in Tando Adam Protests Against Privatization
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Members of the WAPDA Hydro Electric Labor Union staged a protest, shutting down WAPDA offices in response to concerns over potential privatization and to press for their demands. Led by union leaders Noor Hassan Bhughio, Manzoor Khaskheli, Faheem Commando, Syed Imtiaz Shah, Abdul Ghani, Rustam Magsi, Rajab Ali Bughio, and Abdul Ghafoor Brohi, the rally began at the RO Office and concluded with a sit-in outside the Press Club.
Addressing the protesters, union leaders voiced their opposition to the government’s privatization plans, which they believe are driven by IMF pressure. They asserted that WAPDA workers face hazardous conditions daily, risking their lives to maintain the electricity infrastructure. "We are the ones who bring light to others' lives," one leader stated, "and we must not be pushed into darkness ourselves."
The leaders demanded that the government abandon any plans for privatization, increase workers' salaries to cope with soaring inflation, and provide essential benefits such as housing quotas. They warned that the protest movement would continue if their demands were not met.
